Centrale Montemartini

Posted on Sep 18, 2008 | 0 comments

As an art historian, and as part of my job, I try to get out to as many museums and sites of interest as often as possible. After talking to many of the scholars I work with, I made visit last year to Centrale Montemartini, which everyone said was hands down one of the most interestingly presented collections of antiquities in Rome. Created as an offshoot of the Capitoline Museums, the collection is housed in the first public electricity plant in Rome, making for an amazing juxtaposition of ancient sculpture and early 20th century electrical equipment. Best of all, it’s never crowded!
