Sex sells…porchetta?

Posted on Jan 6, 2009 | 10 comments

Sorry I haven’t posted in the past few days; I have a nasty cold and haven’t gone out to photograph anything. This sign comes from New Year’s Eve in Testaccio. Apparently, scantily clad cartoon women love porchetta. It is pretty delicious I must say. I can’t say this is an Italian thing though; I remember a great sausage cart on Lansdowne St. in Boston used to have a girl mounted on a sausage on their sign. Must be more of a late night snack cart thing.

  1. hahahahahah I knew from your message on Twitter exactly what this would be a picture of. I have the same one. I love love love it! Especially considering the double entendre of “porca.” This sign KILLS ME.

  2. Ah, I did not know this sign was famous 😉 PS. for those of you who don’t know what “porca” means, just use a dirty mind and look at the photo, that’s it.

  3. It doesn’t really make me want a sausage though. I wouldn’t say its message is an effective one for me. It fascinates and also disgusts me at the same time.

  4. Oh I agree, but somehow I do not think they are trying to appeal to the female sex.

  5. PS. Those looking for the Boston sausage guys logo will find it here. Ah, reminds me of my college days.

  6. This is so cool!

    Wish you get better soon!

  7. Thanks JM, on the mend. A few more days and I’ll be back into photographing form.

  8. I have to agree with Ms. Violetta-as you can see by JM’s response -it appeals more to men and not to women

  9. Well I do have to say both in Boston and in Rome, the clientele is predominantly male to begin with. I guess they are just targeting their key demographic.

  10. Frankly I prefer the roasted pig. And what a pity I missed the Sausage Guy when I was in Boston this fall!
