Sometimes I intend on posting a photo immediately but then get sidetracked by new pictures I’ve taken and never get around to it. I guess posting once a day doesn’t always cut it! I took this shot while wandering around the back streets of Campo de’ Fiori after my show opened at Gloss a few weeks ago. I’m always telling people here that one of my favorite things about Italy is the surprises you are always getting. Peer into the door of an average looking building and boom—something special. I took this photo through the gates of an apartment building when I spied this amazing looking fountain, which appears to mimic the type of grotto sculpture that was quite popular in antiquity and the Renaissance.

  1. I remember you telling me to look in the doorways and courtyards, there is usually a surprise. I have a beautiful “surprise” framed in my living room when I looked thru a gate in Venice to find a beautiful courtyard with flowers and a fountain. Now I give everyone the same advice:)

  2. Beautiful and very mysterious photo!

  3. See? Your daughter gives some good advice! I expect some royalties off the words of wisdom you’re giving.
