Who Is Lidia Togni?

So if you live in Rome, raise your hand and tell me how many times you’ve seen this poster in your life. Seriously, these are everywhere…if you don’t believe me, have a look the next time you are here and you’ll see them. I’ve always wondered, who the hell is Lidia Togni and why does her circus have to specifically be Latin American? How is this different than a European circus? Perhaps it’s all just a ruse to have a half naked Brazilian looking lady on their poster. Probably. They also have a poster with a giant clown face, but I like this one better.

I started doing some research and found out that the Togni family is one of the largest circus families in Italy. Good ole Lidia was born in the 1930s and I couldn’t find a photo of her online, but if someone does, send me the link! A quick look at the Circo Lidia Togni website tells me that they even do a circus on ice…now that would be something to see. I did find a few photos of the circus in Termoli, so at least I know it really does exist.

Any Romans ever been to this circus? Are there hot scantily clad ladies as advertised?

  1. I thought it was a poster of a carnival at first sight.

  2. Nobu, it definitely looks like carnival, no? I was walking around today and saw posters for probably 5 other circuses!

  3. I see those posters every where too! Thanks for getting to the bottom of this. ha

I have heard Italians referred to as Latin but that would not explain the American part.
