Scivoliamo Insieme

Posted on Jun 14, 2009 | 5 comments

Let me just guess that the ad executives for the Aquapiper water park are men. Why? Well for the past three summers the Roman world has been inundated with billboards and posters of this same model straddling a different animal (one year it was a dolphin) and talking about “sliding.” One year it was “Scivola con me” (Slide with me), this year it’s the oh so catchy “Scivoliamo insieme” (Let’s slide together). What will they do when they run out of double intendre? Don’t even ask me about what the gorilla is supposed to signify. Sigh, things like this remind me of just how “maschile” this country can be. But actually, the whole ad is so absurd it can’t help but make you laugh. Thanks to my colleague M for spotting these ads back up a few weeks ago and reminding me of what a great post it would make.

By the way, has anyone ever been to Aquapiper? Is it filled with blondes straddling animals?

  1. LOL…Being Italian American….I guess I EXPECT THIS KIND OF AD FROM ITALIAN MEN….the ad is ABSURD AND THANKS FOR MAKING ME LAUGH!!!!

  2. that's really random… a gorilla, an a crocodile being stradled by a girl. All on a water slide. What kind of audience were they trying to target??? LOL

  3. I lived in Rome summer '03 to winter '04, and I remember naked women in ads everywhere. It was sort of alarming to be standing in line at the train station next to a cardboard cutout of a buxom topless woman… and turn on the TV to see nude women rolling around on silk sheets to advertise panty liners. But then again, it was sort of fun to be in a place that was a lot less prudish than the Midwestern U.S. where I'm from!

  4. Thanks Jessica. I made similar observations when I was in Rome, and Italy generally, about the hypersexualization of mainstream Italian media/culture. I am actually writing an article now for my blog, on my travels in Italy, and would like to know if I can link to your article, so that I can show the viewers how absurd the advertisements could be.
