On Tour at the Vatican

Posted on Aug 14, 2009 | 12 comments

A group on tour (note the tour guide was standing next to me, in the bottom right corner you can see the umbrella he was carrying as he waves it around). Don’t they look thrilled?? They should be more excited standing next to one of the great pieces of sculpture in the Vatican Museums – the Belvedere Torso. Michelangelo was incredibly influenced by this work and incorporated it into his Last Judgement piece in the Sistine Chapel.

Tomorrow is Ferragosto so a vacation for me too. Back Sunday or Monday with fresh photos!

  8. I just found this on I have to say the pictures are truly beautiful and I am very envious that you moved to Rome. Maybe I will be brave enough some day. PS- I love Laocoon as well.

  9. Funny indeed! Maybe it is because of the terrible hot weather we have these days! They look more bothered than thrilled! Good blog, Jessica!

  10. The vast majority of people shuffling through the world's great museums are ticking off boxes on the itinerary of "great sites" mass culture says "should" be "done".

  11. …ma dopo mille capolavori uno va nel pallone !! poverini, portateli al bar! 😉

  12. La vita nuova – Thanks for stopping by!

Sally – Very true, but that's what makes me sad! This stuff has too much exciting history!

Rob – haha purtroppo l'unico bar e' al ingresso!
