I See the Light

Posted on Oct 4, 2009 | 10 comments

A few months ago I featured a photo of the mosaics in Santa Maria in Trastevere. Today I was showing around visiting friends when one noted the beautiful light streaming through the window and so I took this shot, which also highlights the amazing ceiling. Sometimes people take the ceilings for granted if there is not an elaborate fresco, but gilded, wooden ceilings such as this are quite impressive an also rare to find in such good condition. This particular ceiling dates from the 17th century and was designed by one of my favorite Baroque artists Domenichino, one whose popularity has sadly fallen away over time.

Time to get some rest and gear up for a few days of (happily) playing tour guide and taking photos along the way.
