Zaha Hadid MAXXI Preview

Posted on Nov 15, 2009 | 1 comment

This weekend was a big one for architecture lovers, as Zaha Hadid’s MAXXI (National Museums for 21st Century Arts) was opening for a preview. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it during the short morning windows when the space was open, but decided to go over last night to see what I could get of the exterior. As there was a special dance performance by Sarah Waltz about to take place, so I couldn’t go in any further without having bought a ticket. The museum is empty of art until the spring, but this was a chance for people to appreciate the newest piece of modern architecture in the city and solidifies the Flaminia area as the place to go for one-stop modern architecture shopping. Nearby you have Renzo Piano’s Auditorium and then also the Stadio Olimpico, built in the 1960s, to complete the trio.

For more photos of the complex and get a good insight into the architecture via two good articles on Flavorwire and Designboom. The complex is slated to open to the public in February 2010.
