Bar Necci

Posted on Jan 13, 2010 | 3 comments

Now that I’m living in Pigneto, I couldn’t help but stop in at the iconic Bar Necci, made famous by Pasolini’s Accattone. Of course a lot has changed since the bar opened in 1924 and the inside has a cool modern, but comfy, feel. There’s a nice outside patio seating area where I went this evening and braved the cold to sip wine with a friend. They brought us plates of yummy snacks, as is customary, which we happily munched on while eyeing the menu (also a restaurant, I’ve heard they make good food, but I haven’t eaten here yet). The bar was devastated by a fire back in April, but was completely rebuilt in just a few weeks and there’s definitely a local atmosphere inside. Just across the street they look to be putting in a gastronomia, so I’ll be on the lookout for that when it opens!

  1. Didn't know about the fire. Very cool place.

  2. Hi Jessica,
You have moved so is PIgneto a neighborhood in Rome or out of the city? Perhaps you have said already, but I have so much email still to catch up with after being out of town most of December that I haven't paid as much attention as I like to my iGoogle "stuff."

  3. Joan – Definitely not outside of Rome at all. In fact, much more central than where I was living before. It's not too far from Porta Maggiore/San Lorenzo. Happy New Year!
