The Shoe Stands Alone

Posted on Aug 31, 2010 | 3 comments

Anyone who lives in a city should take a minute to think about how many times they’ve been walking down the street, seen something random, and thought “I wonder what’s the story behind this?” That’s exactly what I saw the other day when I saw this beautifully worn men’s leather shoe sitting on via Baccina in Monti. No other shoe in site, just this one on the side of the road. It’s a classic shoe really and one that reminds me of old men walking through Rome. The shoe stands alone….waiting for his owner to reclaim him.

  1. I used to work in Salem, MA, practically the home of Halloween in the US. Near the city's abandoned, extra creepy jail was a small stairway of just four stairs that went to nowhere–the building had been removed. For weeks I drove by and thought I HAVE to stop and take a photo of this black granny style boot on one of the steps, partially hidden by ivy. I never stopped and one day it was gone. I always wondered how it got there, who wore it and where it disappeared to.

    GREAT photo today!

  2. great 🙂

  3. Cyrstallyn – What a great story! I'm from MA, so I remember going to Salem as a child and watching the re-enactments of everything.
