I took this photo along the via Prenestina in part to juxtapose the anomaly of the plant in the window box against the brick walk covered in graffiti and tags that literally chokes the entire wall. The owner placing it here as a little patch of green in the urban jungle that grows denser every day. For some reason I’ve noticed the dirty aspects of Rome all the more since I returned from Japan, which is odd because that never happens when I go to America and back. The sidewalks with holes in them, the trash that litters the roads because the bins are overflowing, the absolutely massive amounts of ads and political posters that eat away at the city. I wish the politicians that ran this town and ran this country cared and focused their attention on improving these seemingly simple aspects of Romans’ lives. Unfortunately they are busier pointing fingers and causing scandals than making any real progressive improvements.
