“Eye of the Tiger” is a piece by JB Rock that I noticed on his Flickr at the end of October, however I was about to leave for Japan and didn’t make it up to Prati to photograph. From the photo I thought it was a poster and so assumed that it would have been ruined by the rain, but was pleasantly surprised when he let me know that it was painted directly on the building and so should be in good shape. I finally got out there this weekend and, since the piece was commissioned and is therefore around the back of the building, was in luck when one of the apartment dwellers let me in through the gate. From the sneering growl of the tiger to the slithering aggression of the snakes, it’s classic JB Rock style and was great to photograph. Notice the “4 Ever” written in light chalk next to one of the serpents, which I thought was a cute and funny touch given by some kid who probably lives in the building. How cool is it that they commissioned him to do this piece? Damn, I want a painting on my building!

  1. Stunning painting. I wish I knew about it when I was in Rome in October. Oh well!
