Sancta Sanctorum

Posted on Dec 16, 2010 | 1 comment

Yesterday I visited the Sancta Sanctorum, which was the private chapel of the Pope at the Lateran before they moved to the Vatican. Both the frescoes and mosaics were breathtaking and in remarkably good condition. Booking to enter is necessary, but well worth it to see this gem. I can’t believe I hadn’t been there before! A highlight for me were the symbols of the Evangelists painted on the ceiling and the early Christian mosaic depicting Christ.
