A few years ago I posted about the Pastificio Cerere, mostly in regards to the building and the art. A restaurant space opened up recently as part of the complex and I’ve been wanting to go, so my birthday was the perfect excuse. I met up there with some friends for aperitivo and was not disappointed. The environment is warm and the crowd seemed to be young thirty somethings relaxing with their friends. We sat at the bar as the lounge area was filled up and chatted with the very friendly and knowledgeable staff who recommended cocktails and wine. I’m not wine expert, but a foodie friend was with me and she and one member of staff, who used to work at Roscioli, chatted away about Sicilian wines. We decided to go for the more substantial aperitivo which, aside from olives and breads, came with sample servings of a barley soup and two types of pasta. It was a great way to sample what the kitchen had to offer without going overboard. And, seeing as it was my birthday, they also brought a little sampler plate full of sweet treats – meringues, cookies, and chocolates. Overall, the evening was a big success and I’m already planning my next visit.
